Travel To New Places!

Changing your environment and exposing yourself to new experiences can be incredibly inspiring and help reignite your creativity.

Traveling to new places is a powerful lifehack for creatives. The exposure to new environments, cultures, and perspectives can stimulate the imagination and reignite creativity. One of the key reasons is that traveling can broaden your experiences and exposure, which is essential for creative thinking and problem-solving.

According to psychologist Abraham Maslow; experiences and exposure to new environments are key components of self-actualization and personal growth.

Traveling to new places can provide this wealth of opportunities for personal growth and self-discovery because it triggers the mind to think in a completely different ways.

My personal favourite is the following quote from Abraham Maslow, because it leaves no space for excuses:

"If you plan on being anything less than you are capable of being, you will probably be unhappy all the days of your life. What a man can be, he must be. This need we call self-actualization."

To give a few practical examples:

  • A writer

who spends time in a new city may be inspired by the architecture, people, and atmosphere to write a story set in that location.

  • An artist

who visits a new museum or gallery may be inspired by a particular exhibit and incorporate new elements into their own work.

  • A musician

A musician who hears a new genre of music may be inspired to try writing a song in that style.

  • A graphic designer

who spends time in nature may return with new ideas for incorporating organic elements into their designs.

  • A filmmaker

A filmmaker who visits a new country may be inspired by the culture and traditions to create a film that explores those themes.

Additionally, travel can provide a break from the familiar and routine, allowing you to see things with fresh eyes and think outside of the box. This new perspective can inspire new ideas and approaches to creative work. Furthermore, travel can expose you to different art, music, and cultural traditions, which can broaden your creative horizons and inspire new ideas.
